What I’m most surprised about in working at the Children’s Museum is that the most annoying and rude customers are never the children, but the adults. They never seem to have any manners. For example, take the old man the other day who felt the need to make this lovely comment to me as I was on my hands and knees picking up toys for the 100th time that day: “You get paid to pick that up, I have to do that at home for free.” First of all sir, I’m barely getting paid to do this job. Second of all, your kids should be picking up after themselves. I somehow find it hard to believe that you actually do this at home.
The other thing these parents do a lot is interrupt. I have to have 3 conversations going at once when I’m working as cashier because parents consistently walk right up and interrupt when I’m talking to another customer. It’s mind boggling.
And of course we have the complete and total lack of consideration for our exhibits. I understand that when it’s not your stuff you won’t be as nice to it. I’m used to seeing every item of toy food from our cafe on the floor but is it really necessary to rip the shelves out of the wall as well?
